According to a new report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, New York’s crime guns come mostly from states with weak gun laws.

In 2013, Virginia was again the leading exporter of traced crime guns into New York State, with 423.

Virginia is known for its weak gun laws–as are the other states that top the list of out-of-state sources providing the guns used in New York crimes: Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

“This is exactly why we need strong federal gun laws,” said NYAGV Executive Director Leah Gunn Barrett. “While New York State and New York City have been leaders in gun safety, our citizens still suffer from the flow of guns into our communities from weak gun law states,” she added.
