Most crime guns traced from outside New York come from states with weak gun laws, according the 2014 Firearms Trace Data report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Virginia was again the leading exporter, sending 395 traced crime guns into the state.

Virginia and the other leading states providing guns used in New York crimes each have weak gun laws: Georgia, Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

“This is exactly why we need strong federal gun laws,” said NYAGV Executive Director Leah Gunn Barrett. “While New York State and New York City have strong gun laws, our citizens still suffer from the flow of guns into our communities from weak gun law states,” she added.
