We need your support! This Monday, April 20, Poughkeepsie’s City Council will discuss an ordinance on safe gun storage. Please come out to show your support–and stand against the gun lobby!

The Council will be discussing a proposed ordinance supported by NYAGV requiring the safe storage of guns in the home that are not in the immediate possession of the gun owner.

The NRA’s affilate, the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, is fighting to defeat this ordinance and will be bringing out its members Monday night. Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik has already promised the gun lobby that he’ll veto the measure, putting the gun lobby’s interests ahead of the safety of Poughkeepsie citizens.

Please join us Monday at 6:30 pm at the City Council meeting to show your support for this common-sense measure–and to balance out the vocal opposition..

The Poughkeepsie ordinance is about gun owner responsibility. It is being proposed to ensure that fewer guns are stolen and used to commit crimes. Safe storage laws also reduce the risk of accidental deaths, suicides and homicides, especially among children and adolescents, and they’ve been upheld by federal courts.

Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik

Tell Mayor Tkazyik to support safe storage–instead of the gun lobby’s interests.
