We are seeking an individual with a strong track record of success in government grant development, grants management, budgeting and experience in (or interest in developing) skills in fundraising and event planning. The ideal candidate will be passionate about ending gun violence and prepared to oversee and coordinate with NYAGV’s grants management consultant and donor events associate. The Development Director will  participate in all aspects of development from the day-to-day management of donations and grants to creating and implementing the overall development strategy. This full-time position reports to the Executive Director.

Key Categories of responsibility are listed below:

Overall Development Strategy

  •  ● Work with Executive Director and Board of Directors to grow government, individual, and corporate giving
  •  ● Conduct prospect research to identify new funding sources
  •  ● Review and interpret funding solicitations and announcements from public and private funding sources and remain current on funding trends and  
  •     themes that are mission aligned with NYAGV

Procure and Manage Government and Institutional Grants

  •  ● Produce and edit written materials for funders, including grant proposals, reports, concept notes, and LOIs
  •  ● Monitor funding agencies and legislation for regulation changes
  •  ● Supervise and work with grants management consultant to produce and review budgets, oversee contracting and renewals
  •  ● Provide oversight to staff and consultants working on income and expenditure tracking

Donor Cultivation and Special Events/Campaigns

  •  ● Oversee planning and Implementing Special Events, including coordination of Annual Gala with events associate and Executive Director
  •  ● Plan and implement Year-End Letter/On-line Campaign
  •  ● Donor research, outreach,, and Coordinating of meetings and presentations to current and new donors.
  •  ● Track Donor engagement
  •  ● Oversee acknowledgement process and gift receipts

Requirements/Qualifications:

  •  ● Four years of demonstrated experiences with grant development in which the applicant was the primary author of significant proposals to a variety        of agencies
  •  ● Working knowledge of government procedures regarding application and fiscal management of government funds
  •  ● Strong understanding of financial planning, budgeting and budget management
  •  ● Strong project management and time management skills;
  •  ● Proficiency with Microsoft Office required (Word, Excel,Google Suite and PowerPoint);
  •  ● Strong command of donor database software (e.g. Salsa Engage, Salsa CRM, and/or EveryAction)
  •  ● Well-organized and detail oriented; ability to plan strategically, set priorities and focus on details and follow through
  •  ● Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication. Experience and ability to interact comfortably with a wide variety  
  •     of people and communities.
  •  ● Ability to take initiative, self-motivate and function autonomously
  •  ● Ability to function effectively in a team-based environment
  •  ● Have experience working in social justice and have a demonstrated commitment to a racial equity framework

Salary and Benefits

(Full-time Annual Salary) $77,000 – 83,000
This position provides paid time off and Employer-provided healthcare reimbursement plan.

The Youth Education Specialist position requires a dynamic and personable individual who will instruct the ReACTION gun violence prevention program in New York City public high schools, support our summer mentorship program, and help expand and develop relationships with community members and leaders to reduce gun violence. During the school year, this position requires 3-4 days teaching in schools across New York City or attending community events and one day in NYAGV’s office. The Youth Education Specialist will work in the classroom with students who have been exposed to gun violence at a personal level, people who are exposed through their close relationships, and people who are exposed at a community level. This position is full-time but may potentially be modified to a part-time role of 3 days a week.

Qualifications 

  • B.A. degree/candidate for B.A. (preferred but not required). 

  • Instructing and leadership experience preferred. 

  • Experience working with youth and ability to interact comfortably with a wide variety of people. Personal and professional experience and commitment to working and living with marginalized communities in underserved neighborhoods. 

  • Has experience engaging youth and young adults in an effective and professional way. 

  • Strong interest in learning about gun violence prevention issues including laws and policies. Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication. 

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Word and working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint. 

  • Strong organizational and timekeeping skills. 

  •  Knowledge of social media such as Facebook and Twitter. 

  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus but not required.

Office Manager (Part-time)
Location: NYC (hybrid)

Organization Overview:

 

The mission of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence and its Education Fund is to reduce gun violence through advocacy and education designed to encourage action, influence public opinion and lead to policy change. NYAGV Ed Fund also operates several youth programs, including a school-based gun violence prevention program in New York City schools.  The Office Manager will report to the Executive Director.

 

Financial Management and Payroll Administration

 

You will be responsible for maintaining organizational accounts receivable and payable records, supporting NYAGV Ed Fund’s bookkeeper, and coordinating payroll with the accounting team. You will also perform day-to-day accounting functions and tasks as needed including:

 

  • Perform the accounts payable and receivables functions, including processing all invoices, expense reports and check requests accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining accurate records, and coordinate with accounting team to issue vendor payments
  • Coordinate with staff and accounting team to ensure timesheets, reimbursement documentation, and health reimbursement arrangement information is collected for the payroll process.Support the development team by updating the donor and membership databases as needed.
  • Assist bookkeeper and accountant in audit preparation for federal, state, city, and internal audits for all funding sources
  • Organize and maintain electronic and paper files of federal, city, state and private grant documents and resources.
  • Collect and upload grant related documents for submission to funders.
  • Support Executive Director with the management of all insurance policies (workers compensation, general liability, Directors & Officers, etc.)
  • Manage vendor relationships and purchase order process for the organization.

 

Office Management and Administrative Support

  • Manage the main phone line.
  • Support the Executive Director with scheduling and calendar coordination.
  • Oversee office logistics (supplies, IT, work with outside vendors, procurement, tracking of purchase orders, maintaining records of orders and inventory).
  • Support the development associate with the preparation of donor mailing lists for fundraising events.
  • Support the development team with mailings for fundraising appeals, thank you letters, and other materials, as needed.
  • Support Executive Director with management of benefits, online time-tracking, and preparation of all staff notifications related to benefits, salary, holidays, office closures, etc.

Time expectations 

 

NYAGV’s regular operating hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.   As a part-time employee, the Office Manager will work 15-20 hours a week.  Flexibility on schedule is permissible as long as the schedule is consistent and hours are during the non-profit’s regular operating hours.

NYAGV Ed Fund operates community-focused education programs, including a school-based gun violence prevention program in New York City schools and a statewide public education program, Connecting Communities to End Gun Violence.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Operations Director to join our nonprofit organization focused on reducing gun violence through advocacy and education. The Operations Director will oversee day-to-day operations, develop organizational tools that support the planning and execution of  programs and events, assist with  implementing the strategic plan, and contribute to healthy and sustainable  organizational growth by supporting human resources, facilities, and logistics. This position requires strong leadership and organizational skills. The Operations Director will report directly to the Executive Director and collaborate with the entire NYAGV team to ensure effective and efficient operations.

Responsibilities:

Organizational Infrastructure:

  • Foster a culture of intentionality, planning, and innovation within the organization.
  • Implement strategies to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with the mission.
  • Create timelines and tasks that delineate roles for programs and projects. Provide training and support for the staff that use them.
  • Collaborate with the Development and Finance teams to ensure they have the proper documents from the programming staff to ensure compliance, financial monitoring, and budget alignment.
  • Continuously assess and upgrade physical spaces to meet staff needs, safety, and comfort. Review proposals from contractors and provide recommendations.
  • Manage any physical structural growth, including office expansion.
  • Identify and mitigate potential operational risks, draft and implement policies and procedures related to compliance and safety.
  • Support the Development team in gathering data related to grant management, including applications, reporting, and compliance.
  • Provide general administrative support, including scheduling organization wide meetings, managing organizational calendar, and drafting documents.
  • Provide supervision for the office manager and fiscal team.

 

Youth Programming and Events:

  • Support the Education Director in daily operations, such as staff scheduling, data collection, and survey distribution.
  • Establish systems for workflow, task distribution, deadlines, and program implementation.
  • Create systems for tracking demographic data and attendance in programs as well as paperwork required for tracking grant outcomes.
  • Plan and manage events, including Advocacy Days, Community Events, Fundraising events, and Staff Development days.
  • Develop and maintain systems for data collection, analysis, and reporting on program outcomes and impact.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, public administration, social sciences).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit management, operations, or a related field, preferably focused on young people and/or legislative advocacy.
  • Proven experience in project management and successfully managing complex projects.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams effectively, fostering collaboration and a positive work environment.
  • Familiarity with databases, CRM systems, and tools to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with issues related to gun violence prevention, community safety, and social justice or a willingness to learn.
