Friday night’s mass shooting at the University of California at Santa  Barbara was another stark reminder of the need to keep guns away from dangerous individuals.

In a heartbreaking press conference, Richard Martinez, the father of one of the victims, 20-year-old Christopher Michaels-Martinez, blamed “craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA” for his son’s death, and asked, “When will this insanity stop?”

According to The New York Times, politicians have been calling Mr/ Martinez to express condolences on the death of his son–but his message to them is: “I don’t care about your sympathy,” he said. “Get to work and do something.”

We need strong federal gun laws to ban military-style weapons and ammunition, and to make sure dangerous people can’t get guns. We need stronger state laws requiring safe storage of guns to protect our children. And we need to remind our elected officials that the safety of our citizens means more than the interests of the corporate gun lobby.

Take action!
