Suicide is often an impulsive act, particularly among young people. Public health experts agree that the success of suicide attempts depends on the lethalness of the means used.

Because of the easy access to guns in American homes, nearly two-thirds of gun deaths are suicides. If fewer people had access to guns, the rate would fall substantially.

During National Suicide Prevention Week, NYAGV released “Breakup” –a public service announcement that shows when a gun is present, an attempted suicide almost always ends in death.
