Frank LautenbergNYAGV regrets the passing today of Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), a prominent supporter of strong gun safety laws.  Lautenberg’s last votes in the Senate occurred in April, when he voted to support federal background checks and to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.  Even as other politicians distanced themselves from the gun violence issue in fear of the gun lobby, Lautenberg was a consistent voice for common sense gun laws. He also wrote a 1996 law that prohibits domestic abusers from purchasing firearms.

NYAGV appeals to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a Republican, to appoint a replacement for Lautenberg with the same ideals.
