“Kids and Guns” will explore the impact of gun violence on children.

At this event, you’ll hear touching stories and performances from people whose lives were changed by gun violence, participate in a discussion with a panel of health and gun violence experts,  and find out how you can help prevent child access to guns.

Stories– excerpted from “Gun Country” by Houses on the Moon Theater Company–include:

  • A mother who has harnessed her grief over the loss of her murdered son into a traveling memorial of 3,000 sneakers, one for every teen killed the year her son died.
  • A young man who is coping with his near death experience after being struck by a stray bullet, by photographing and blogging his recovery.
  • A policeman who witnessed the accidental suicide of a child playing with a gun.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Sheldon Teperman, Chief Trauma Surgeon at Jacobi Medical Center.
  • Dr. Arthur Caplan, Bioethicist at New York University.
  • Dr. Bindu Kalesan, Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health.
  • Leah Gunn Barrett, Executive Director, New Yorkers Against Gun Violence.
