Youth Over Guns, NYAGV’s youth advocacy group, has been awarded a 2020 Safer Tomorrow Fund grant by Levi Strauss and Co.

The grant, awarded to five groups, is part of Levi Strauss’s commitment to advocating for gun violence prevention. Its 2020 Safer Tomorrow Fund focuses on organizations that were born from and work closely with underserved communities of color disproportionately affected by gun violence.

The grant allows New Yorkers Against Gun Violence to launch Anger to Advocacy, a new peer-led Youth Over Guns program that will mobilize youth of color to speak out for solutions to our nation’s gun violence epidemic.

Luis Hernandez, Executive Director of Youth Over Guns, said, “This grant will allow us to train aspiring youth activists and empower Black and Brown youth who bear the brunt of structural inequities to be the agents of change needed to take on the dual threat of gun violence and COVID-19. These two public health crises in tandem have created a recipe for disaster in communities of color, but through Anger to Advocacy we will identify solutions and lead a platform that will prioritize safety and equity for young people now and in the future.”
