Marking the recent 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy–in which Lee Harvey Oswald purchased a mail-order rifle–the group noted that 40% of gun transactions are currently done through private and internet sales, and are currently not subject to federal background checks.

The group called on Representative Grimm to co-sponsor HR 1565 for background checks on all gun sales and HR 452 to strengthen gun trafficking regulations. NYAGV’s Phil Jonas, Executive Board member, spoke for NYAGV at the rally.
