Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed President Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963, with a rifle he had purchased mail order without a background check. Oswald paid just $19.95 for his Mannlicher-Carcano 6.5 millimeter bolt-action rifle using a coupon from an ad in the NRA’s  American Rifleman magazine.

Today, individuals can still obtain dangerous weapons without undergoing background checks merely by making their purchases online, at  gun shows, or through other private gun sales.

It’s been 50 years since JFK’s murder. And since then, over 1.4 million Americans have been killed by gun violence–more than all the Americans killed in all the wars the U.S. has fought. Isn’t it time for federal background checks?

Take action today–contact your Congressional representative and demand they enact federal background checks on all gun sales.
