At a press conference on February 11, Monroe County Legislator Ernest Flagler-Mitchell announced his plans to introduce Firearm Safe Storage legislation to the Monroe County Legislature after a series of public hearings. Flagler-Mitchell was joined by Brockport Police Chief Daniel Varrenti, NYAGV Upstate Coordinator Gary Pudup, and members of law enforcement and the community.
The bill, which mirrors the law recently enacted in the City of Albany, would require gun owners to secure firearms that are not in their possession and control.
NYAGV has been advocating for sale storage laws on both the state and municipal level. NYAGV’s Pudup, a retired police commander and constitutional rights advocate, was instrumental in the advocacy and development of the bill.
Firearm safe storage laws exist in Rochester, Buffalo, Albany, New York City and Westchester County.
Legislator Ernest Flagler-Mitchell, above at lectern, will propose a safe storage bill for Monroe County.
