NYAGV’s Executive Director Leah Barrett took on the pro-gun reps and debated the NY SAFE Act on April 5.  At the debate, held at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School, Barrett joined Robert Spitzer, SUNY Cortland professor, in support of New York’s new gun safety law, the NY SAFE Act. They debated  NY Assemblyman Will Barclay and political commentator John Lott, Jr., who spoke in opposition of the new bipartisan law.

The NY SAFE Act–New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act–gives New York State one of the most comprehensive gun laws in the nation, with provisions to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals and bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
